I do have to commend the author for the fast pace of this novel because the story moving quickly along is what kept me reading. So, there’s that, but it’s still not much. However, Julia does learn that not all things related to the gangs are black and white – at least when it comes to why some of them join the gangs. They were just kind of flat, going along with the events of the story. I wouldn’t say there’s much development of Julia or Eric, or any other characters. The thing with this book is that it’s more plot-driven than character-driven. I guess maybe I expected a lot out of this, maybe too much, but overall it didn’t end up being bad. I picked this up because I love the Perfect Chemistry series by Simone Elkles, which also centers around teenage boys in gangs and falling in love with a girl who wants nothing to do with that life. Readers will delight at the dynamic between the leads and look forward to future adventures. Weaver populates this bright, fast-paced thriller with engagingly flawed characters and breathless action. Despite their different working approaches, Ellie and Ramsey go undercover as a couple and develop a plan to take down the mastermind behind the scheme. She quickly learns he’s part of the reason she’s been summoned: McDonnell’s assigning officer, Major Ramsey, informs her the man was part of an ID counterfeiting scheme that makes it possible for German spies to operate in England. Shortly after arriving at her rooming house, McDonnell sees a man fall dead in the street. Weaver has worked in libraries since she was fourteen she was a page and then a clerk before obtaining her MLIS from Louisiana State University. Weaver’s outstanding third Electra McDonnell adventure (after 2022’s The Key to Deceit) sees McDonnell, a former safecracking thief, take on a murky new assignment from British intelligence: she knows only that she’s expected to assume a new identity and leave behind her family in blitz-era London for the city of Sunderland. When an evil force abducts Chase, Miranda unleashes her bunny in order to save him, but the revelation of her shifter side puts her in danger. When she hears about his theory on woodland creatures and predators not mixing, she thinks all is lost, but she didn’t count on a bear’s curious nature-and possessive need. Staying focused on the job isn’t easy when all she can think about is turning his frown upside down, a task made harder when she gets a glimpse of his passion. Miranda’s on a mission for the Furry United Coalition, and it involves secretly guarding one grumpy ol’ bear. However, the more he gets to know his overly perky neighbor, the more he craves her, a desire worse than his addiction to honey and pie. Miranda is a bunny and she is also a bubbly blonde who plays the dumb blonde card to a tee. There are several other shifter breeds in this book as side characters including a giraffe, swan and crocodile (some of which are in future books, woohoo). Summary What’s a poor bear to do when all he wants is some sweet, bunny pie?īears and bunnies aren’t supposed to mix, or that’s what Chase keeps telling himself when his bouncy new neighbor won’t stay out of his business-and his mind. Eve Langlais does a great job with that in this book with Miranda, our heroine and bunny. But please don't worry, you still have more than 500,000 other books you can enjoy! The number of paranormal romances published each and every year involving werewolves is staggering! Simply searching for werewolf romance books online just about put me over the edge. While any sort of paranormal beings (werewolves, vampires, bear shifters, demons, etc.) may not be everyone’s cup of tea, these werewolf books have an incredibly large following. See? Werewolf books are a guaranteed mood booster. It also doesn’t hurt that the fated mates trope-and therefore werewolf romances-is almost always higher up there on the heat level, since the character’s bodies recognize the need to get it on ASAP. There is something so deliciously decadent about big bad werewolves being absolutely powerless to love and their preordained mate. Much of my obsession with werewolf romance books comes via the fated mates trope that almost always permeates these paranormal books. Whenever I need a book that is guaranteed to delight or something to pull me out of a reading slump, werewolf romances are my very first choice. Werewolf romance novels are my comfort reads. That said, if writing good concise English is important to your success then The Elements of Style is a classic. Though you know it’ll make you big and strong when you grow up, you still occasionally feel like stabbing whoever suggested it with a fork.ĭon’t get me wrong, there’s some absolute gold inside: omit needless words, write actively and positively, structure your paragraphs and sentences effectively.Īnd yet, Strunk’s choice to open with ‘the correct use of possessive apostrophes’ is so bizarre, his writing, at times, so concise and so technical, that the book often feels much harder going than it needs to be. Reading Strunk’s Elements of Style is like eating your grandmother’s Brussels sprouts. The first-greatest, of course, is to shoot them now, while they’re happy.” Dorothy Parker Dorothy Parker “If you have any young friends who aspire to become writers, the second-greatest favour you can do them is to present them with copies of The Elements of Style.
